Looks like new Rampage shots from Gdonovan, interesting to post I thought :)

As for them new pics,, which I found @ the 3dfx gallery:

Top view:

Rear view:

Very nice photo's there :respekt:

Gdonovan made more pics, which you can see here:
http://www.3dfx.ch/gallery/v/3dfx_collec…navId=xb0b685b1
Click the white thumbnails, which a bug from the gallery that isn't functioning properly since the place went down due to a server SQL Server Connect Error, the 800 x 600 pics do work though, same as the full size ones do.

@ Gdonovan :)

The reason why I made a topic about them pics, was because I stumbled upon them when I was looking around in the 3dfx gallery, as I saw no restrictions for not using them either, thus the case ;)

But hey, any plans to review us the card show us what it's really capable of, since you made new pics of it, or were the pics meant for someone else?
All I do know is that I came across them and found it thoughtful to post them, the 3dfx Specter 1000 AGP 32 MB DDR Rev.A1 4700 remains a major mystery for many people of how it really performas in Drect3D Glide or OpenGL, which has never been shown as a full review.
Thus it's a shame that the owners of this rare 3dfx card have not shown us it's full potential of what these things are truly capable of, many 3dfx fans were hoping you to show us that one day, since you have a functional card, right.

Thanks for the infos Obi :)

Looks like the card is ready to be shipped somewhere !
I have a hunch....Raff searches for such a card for the 3dfx test and reviews. ( PC Games hardware magazine )

I hope that somebody will reveal the mistery :)

There are not really working drivers for the Rampage. There's an alpha state driver, which can do OpenGL and some DirectX 8 demos. The Rampage was in an early state...

OpenGL is perfect for Descent I & II with DXX-Rebirth :D
The Rampage should work fine with OpenGL 1.2 xD

Since Quake 3 is working some other openGL games should work too. I'm not talking about a flawless gaming experience, but at least some more games should run.

I know that Half Life works in D3D mode with Rampage.

Btw, very nice shots :) Man I would like to see the card working/rendering a game or techdemo.

Hello,

The main problems are the drivers. Rampage only can handle some D3D games in software console mode. Another problem would be the dongle. Hank is the key. He has all the info for building one.

About OpenGL- I guess Daniel would not have any problem for compile one new *.dll library for Rampage card.

Best regards,
Oscar.

Der Chip ist halt First Running Silicon, also erste laufende Samples.

Raff, Max_R & Goriath would know what to do with it, that is one thing for sure. they would be the only people I'd dare to test such a card if I would not know my ways with it, just due to their major experience with various VGA cards from all sorts that even out rare this Rampage it's self.

@Gary: Is the video-output upside down or are the colors inverted? The dongle looks like the signaling is inverted from high to low, this would at least explain the resistor and transistor amount on the dongle.

Colors are inverted- When in DOS you see white and black output instead of black and white.

The BIOS callout you see on my website has the color flipped in photoshop to display correct.

Then a simple inverter should do the job.

Quoted from "trevormacro at falconfly"

I read on another forum " This is an accessory that works as a filter to correct I/O video signal since there are some defects in the silicon layer" , so the dongle fixes more than just RGB color pins or whatever problems you guys thought it corrected. Furthermore, I found: " Monitor link requires an interface circuit named Dongle for level and impedance adjustment." So the transistors and resistors seen on the dongle board are used for correcting voltage level output and/or matching impedance output to the monitor (monitors are typically terminated with 75ohm to ground with VGA).

I don't think this dongle is made for filtering purpose, therefore the dongle is optically too simple. Also this state with the "impedance adjustment" is wrong! The card would not create a clear picture if there are such problems  The only thing we know is that the colors are inverted, nothing more.

Here a quote from Gary's Rampage FAQ:

Quoted

11/29/00 Rampage is running but there are some stupid bugs. The DAC output is reversed ... high is low and low is high which turns out to be rather sucky since displaying is difficult. Looking at a dongle to invert the inverted output. Flash ROM bug where part can't be written... Fixes for both are possible in metal layers.

I think Sirta got a few things wrong when he did his "review" of the card and its dongle.

The picture is perfectly clear, just "reversed" pictures and video in a few days if not sooner.
