  • There I have one point of critizism: Where is the 9800 GTX/Ultra? The "GeForce 9 Launch" wasn't much more than a 9600 launch, so I'm pretty much disappointed. Even the GX2 isn't there, although that would've basically still been a G8x-based card.

nVidia, where art thou? I want my shiny new GTX/Ultra. ;)

    THIS! IS!! SIGNATURE!!!

  • here some nice pics of a SLI Reworked GeForce 9800 GX2

If you look at the PCB layout of both card parts, and where the connectors aka DVI's and TV-Out + HDMI ports are, it looks as is the G92-450 GPU's are aimed face to face with the other, there by 1 GPU faced upwards and the other facing down on the other downwards.

    [Blockierte Grafik: http://www.abload.de/img/9800gx2b6tm.jpg]

That SLI cable looks odd? When comparing with the 7900 GX2 and the 7950 GX2, this looks alot more complicated right?
    [Blockierte Grafik: http://www.abload.de/img/9800gx2c6nz.jpg]

if the GPU is called G92-450 would it be that it might run @ 450Mhz core speed? as you can see it's a Rev.A2 GPU also :)

    The ram is K4J52324QE-BJ1A,1.0ns GDDR3 512Mbit memory

And since this is a prototype it has a hand soldered rework :D
    [Blockierte Grafik: http://www.abload.de/img/9800gx2reworkargs.jpg]

To the SLi connector ofcourse! heh I suppose the engineers had to rework this so Quad SLI may work in a more efficiant way? heh who knows :)

hmm not yet by the looks of it, it might come some time later because the 8800 Ultra slo took a while before it came after the GTX :) heh there is still hope and if NV will make a 9800 ULTRA they should give it 512bit GDDR5 or so :topmodel: :spitze:

dabei läuft mein sys doch grad so geschmiert.. :mauer:

  • heh my speculations seemed to be right afterall and I'm not surprised, still odd why nVidia didn't choose 512Bit GDDR3 for their 9800 GTX series, since it should of been possible, let's hope that it's raw rendering power will show us better results, since ram bandwidth doesn't have to mean everything ;)

  • Not necessarily, but I prefer high FSAA settings (as well as TAA!!), and that is, where the memory interface either shows its teeth or fails to deliver. And by all means, a 256-Bit GDDR3 interface can only fail to deliver... Unless those specs are fakeyfakey or nVidia has some lossess ultra-efficient framebuffer compression algorithm up its sleeves (which i frankly don't believe).

And since this is surely no tile-based renderer (*hahem*), all a 9800GTX with those specs can do is LOSE. Which i do not believe when looking at G80's and G92's tremendous success. Shrinking that core to 65nm and letting it fail after workover and tuning doesn't make sense to me.

This gotta be fake. I'll give this a 75% chance of being nVidia Contra-Propaganda!!

You're not with me on that assumption? All fair and well, but may i call the "Nono, GeForce 8800 will not be a unified shader" game that nVidia played on us back into your memories..... This can pretty well be the same game all over again, albeit not up to the same proportions.

Edit: There is another small something, that doesn't seem right. nVidia might have broken their nomenclature scheme already with the new GTS card, but still, a G92-based GTX seems.. odd. At least at this point of time. Where is G90 alias D9E?

  • I'm hoping they will release an Ultra with a G100 hehe add 512Bit GDDR5 mwoah we could use that for a nice OpenGL renderer right peeps :respekt:

you lads might think why I started this topic, well I just want something different than an ATi setup for my next upcoming system, since I'm also interested in what camp green can do as well :) I'd like to see their new FSAA techs as well and I think they are the most dominating on the market, as I find FSAA x8 on a 6000 nicer than FSAA x8 on a Dual R600 setup I have now, so I thought hmm maybe nVidia's GF 9 series in my answer since they did take over 3dfx right ;)

Though the Voodoo5's FSAA can hardly be beaten but that's just my opinion.
