Hi All
While I was looking for other pics of the AWE64 Gold, AWE means Advanced Wav Effects just for the ones that don't know this and it's the successor of the AWE 32 PnP. So I came across these finds from ebay, which I just bought recently, 2 different AWE64 Golds :
AWE64 Gold CT 4390

Those pics are from my two AWE64 Golds's they are from the seller I bought them from so I used them as reference for now
And here a massive pic on the different packages you got with these two cards.

I started to wonder, could CT4540 actually the SB AWE64 Gold Value ??
No, it has all the features of the Gold.

This may be meaningless as PnP was the way Creative was going at the time and both cards may be PnP.
True, the CT4540 is PnP as well.
So far, it seems the CT4540 is just an updated or "consolidated" version of the CT4390. The box that my CT4540 came in has the CT4390 in the photo on its back"
Tonight I will make many pics of the CT4540 I have here so that is at the least a good start the CT 4390 is in transit
After the AWE64 Gold the AWE64 Mark II was planned an AWE64 with 4.1 surround sound support with a Hardware Dolby Decoder, here more info of this cool design:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_Blaster_AWE64
"An AWE64 Mark II was also designed, and prototype boards and drivers made. This card added 4 speaker surround sound for games, and a hardware Dolby Digital decoder. The six extra phono plugs (sub/center/left rear/right rear/digital in/digital pass through) and the extra Dolby decoder chips were placed on a second board which connected to the main board via a ribbon cable. The project was dropped in favor of the Sound Blaster Live! cards due to the high expense of such a solution, and the aging ISA interface."
So it seems that there are prototypes of these boards, now to find one heh that is the other part of the problem
The main thing is that you can't use these godlike sound cards for PCI but there is a very good but very rare alternative:
AWE64D PCI

Okay it's no Gold but as Alternative it's still the best PCI sound card for them old Midi games which is most of all importance of this rare piece.
Many confuse the AWE64D PCI with the PCI 64 which is not an AWE64

Just to keep that in mind I added these similarities to this topic
