have made rough calculations of assembly cost of this v1 replica at my domestic assembly house, it will be about $100 per single unit. just for work they want for soldering for small batches. plus cost of pcb plus cost of components (one tmu more expensive than vsa chip) plus logistics plus a little bit compensation for hundreds hours of my time. so i see no perspective in production.

Yeah, probably true. I definately couldn't afford the card at that price. About 65$ PPP would have been my hard limit. As I said I didn't really know what pricing to expect.

Still with the market being as crazy as it currently is I still wouldn't rule out a kickstarter campaign to be successful. Especially in the US. After all other new homebrew DOS hardware (like new wavetable cards or that ISA OPL3 card still waiting to have games with support for it created) sells at similar price points and the 3Dfx name generates a lot of traction right now. Plus there are probably some youtubers more than willing to advertise your project.
Even if I can't have that "Ultimate V1" I would love for it to happen.

no surprise in price. some people expected to see about $100-150 price level, it's absolutely unrealistic. old chips are not cheap and their cost never be less. and chips in qfp package are more expensive in assembly rather than bga.
