Zeigt euer Case! (ehem. "Mein Rechenknecht")

    System "Aoba"

    • Biostar X470GTN Mini-ITX
    • AMD Ryzen 5 2600X (Hexcore, 3.6GHz Ref., 12nm @ 95W)
    • 2 × 8 = 16GiB Kingston HyperX DDR-IV/3200 SDRAM (@ 3200MHz Datenrate mittels XMP1) in passendem Rot
    • AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 (MSI m.

Mini-ITX is eben eine fiese Fummelei.

  • Lovely build there GAT :)

Seems like a very cramped case to work in, I am surprised you got it all airflow friendly in there XD
I hope that Ryzen 5 isn't too under powered for your Vega 64 tho, I would of gone for a Ryzen 7 2700 or so.
Unless this system has a much different purpose?

Also the name "Aoba" does it have a meaning or is it from Mass Effect? xD

Here's my Vega 64 system when it comes to show you case as the thread is labelled :)

Here the entire system it's self:

So far I t runs everything very well @ 1920xx1200 & with AMD VSR 2560x1600 also very well.
Even with AMD VSR 3840x2400p reso, some games tend to run very well as well 8)

If I can't find a good 4K monitor that has 16:10 Aspect ratio Imma stick witha 30" 2560x1600p monitor instead and use AMD VSR to do 4K instead.

  • 16:10 is pretty much dead (unfortunately), so I'll stick with my trusted 30" as well. It sure isn't high-frame-rate or even HDR, but I don't care. Next display device will likely be a VR headset anyway. ;)

Ah, I like your Noctuas by the way! Can't get enough of those coolers for some reason. And it's double the pretty with two of them in there. ;) Their new fan series with metal spindles for added stability is nice too, they give a really sturdy feel.

About it being cramped in that case: It really is. I wouldn't wanna build Mini-ITX systems for a living, that much's for sure. Would get frustrating real fast. ;)

@Ryzen: I picked a Hexcore with slightly higher clock rates than the Ryzen 7 2700 for a simple reason: I still think most games won't use 8 cores or more. So I thought that going with slightly less cores and more MHz should make a good fit for a gaming machine. I'm guessing it should support the Vega no less than a 7 2700 would, unless there are some games that really need lots of cores. At first, I wanted a 2400G even, a quad core. But I switched to the 2600X in a last-minute decision for some added future proofing you could say.

The name "Aoba" comes from game-related Anime character cutiepie "Aoba Suzukaze", who is a 3D CGI game designer. Hence, I picked it for a pure gaming machine that will do little other than running games. I'm still not overly happy with the naming yet though, so it may change in the future.

I do like mythological names too (I often use them for my drives and RAID arrays), but I couldn't find a playful, gaming/gambling-related god or mythological creature whose name I would've liked so far.

  • With Vulkan API the 2700 will destroy all them Ryzen 5's when I use Vulkan API all my 24 cores come to life!
Or games that use Unity engine these love Multi core the more core the better, games like Overload, Subnautica & SCP: Secret Laboratory love SMP even they use Unity Engine and DX11 SMP is very well supporter, here I ran a 12 Manned SCP:SL Server and average CPU usage was 60 to 70 %

My Dual 12 core system sits around Thread Ripper 1920X performance if all my 24 cores are used, since most gaming systems hare multicore related with API's like Vulkan API and Game Engines like Unity Engine such things give SMP systems much more headroom and the upper advantage.

But as you said most games don't support SMP that iskind of true, since I play games that love SMP my Dual 12 Core AMD OpteronMP 6180 SE D1 is still doing me lots of good and I love the Sapphire Nitro+ RX Vega 64 Limited Edition V2 I gave it it really made this system complete.

As for my Dual Dual Core AMD OpteronDP 285 E6 that hd the NVIDIA GTX 480 ES and the ASUS K8N-DL and 4x 2GB PC-3200 ECC Reg from HP Micron that system is getting this as upgrade:

    New parts:
    Supermicro H8SGL-B

    1x Noctua NH-U9DO A3
4x 8GB PC3-12800 ECC Reg Samsung Server Ram (With Heatsinks) [Max Ram = 256GB PC3-12800 ECC Reg]
    Sapphire Nitro+ AMD Radeon RX 580Special Edition 8GB 256Bit GDDR5

Salvaged parts from other systems I have upgraded:

    1x 8 core AMD OpteronMP 6140 D1 8x 2.6Ghz 1x 10MB L3
    Auzentech X-Fi Prelde 7.1 PCI 64MB 128Bit XRAM
1x Western Digital 300GB Velociraptor 10K RPM asMain Drive
1x Western Digital 2TB RAID Edition 4 Storage Drive

As Noctua goes the moment you told me about them a good 8 a 9 years ago I stuck to using them and never changed my mind :)
So I still thank you for that best aircooling advice ever <3

Will man etwas umbauen, muss man gleich die halbe Kiste auseinander nehmen.

  • Play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt + all it's DLC's runs fantastic with Vega 64, always worth the replay, that was by far the best RPG I have done in decades.
I strongly advise it, that is if you are using Windows 7 or later.

Here some screenshots I made when I was playing it with my RX Vega 64:

It's very addictive and has solid content, there are tons of mods as well to make it look better etc, your new system will love this game that I am sure of 8)

Here the new parts for my Backup system and mini workstation:

The reason why I placed the parts in my table , is so that no dust can get to them.
Just need to find that cooler and I can start on this as well.

  • I've actually bought The Wicther 3 on GOG a while back, so I do have that game. Loved The Witcher and liked The Witcher 2 as well. I bought the final part of the trilogy for "that day", when I would have a modern gaming system. ;) And the shoebox has Windows 10 1803 on it. ;) Vega needs at least Win7 anyway? :/

Damn you finally got me now.. I bought Witcher Enhanced a second ago :D

Seems like I finally play through the Trilogy too, like the whole world already did it seems :topmodel:

Although I sense my trusty Fury X will have slight mem probs with the third game xD We'll see :spitze:

  • Well Fury X does have 4096Bit HBM it's ultra fast at compressing and decompressing massive textures as my my Sapphire Nitro+ OC R9 Fury clearly showed with GTA5 @ 1920x1200 in High very high settings, would be nice you can have a setting that allows the user to decide how much VRAM the game will use as with GTA5, I really liked that feature.

RX Vega 64 is a beast to work with tho, even tho I look forward to the Vega 20 XTX with 16GB 4096Bit HBM2 and 35% greater performance thanks to being 7nm and much higher clockspeeds, for now Vega 20 is a workstation card only but there have been rumors of AMD releasing limited gaming editions of this chip, I always keep my eyes and ears open to such idea's.

Witcher 3 should run great with your Fury X Tweakstone I'd not worry too much for that, well for reso's like 1920x1200 or 2560x1600p, you should be quite fine just as long your system does scale well along with it :spitze:

  • The Rest of my System isn‘t going to be the Problem ;)

The Main Problem will be the 3440x1440 Resolution of my 34‘‘ Screen :D

But it‘ll take Time until I Start with witcher 3, I just started the First Episode (which I really like so far!)

  • The first Witcher is actually based on the final incarnation of the Aurora game engine that drove even the original Neverwinter Nights from 2002 (!). Seemingly CD Project Red did not yet have the resources or the assured ROI to develop the REDEngine just yet. It's quite amazing to see how far they could go with that ancient engine. But it's also tricky to work with, I wonder whether you can do HDR + MSAA on the Fury X? Because it took me a while to get it working on nVidia cards (especially with SLI, which was even harder to get to work properly, thanks fly out to nVidia Inspector).

The engine also poses a few problems with loading times and all, but this should be mostly fixed with the "Enhanced Edition" version of the game. I think that the first game using the aged Aurora engine is the primary reason for parts 1 and 2 looking so very different. I haven't played part 3 yet, but to me, part 1 featured the more immersive atmosphere and impactful storyline development when compared to part 2, even if part 2 has by far the superior looks.

Maybe I should try The Witcher 2's Ubersampling feature on the RX Vega 64, I wonder whether it'd be anywhere near being playable. ;) My Titan Black absolutely couldn't do it at 2560×1600. Was like 20fps or less..
