Guess the project

I don't have the faintest of ideas, so I'm just gonna guess around wildly. I assume I'll be completely wrong, but whatever. First, I think this might be a video signal processing and maybe conversion board. Analog to digital, maybe? But then again, there appear to be two outputs.. what are those? HDMI? DP? Multi-screen? But how?
The Spartan-7 can surely be used for video signal processing, but who knows what you're actually doing with it. It's more flexible than that it seems.Bottom line: No freaking idea!

Since you've posted this thread in the 3dfx Sub-Category, i would say it is a VGA to HDMI and / or a VGA to DisplayPort conveter.
so you can run e.g. a Voodoo 5 (which doesn't have DVI ) on a modern large TFT display.
But, now when i take a second look - why is there such a black square on the board ? You censored something ?
-
Yes, those parts are covered in black because they are actually saying what the board is/does And yes, it's a 3dfx related project, as was the custom PSU

DE (Google Translate): Ihre Antworten waren ziemlich genau richtig.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EN: Your answers were pretty much spot on. This is add-on board (no modifications needed) for almost any V2 (works with V2 SLI too). With few modifications it can work with V1 too. It adds DVI via HDMI connector and supports HDMI 2.0 passthrouth. It is a pure digital to digital converter as it grabs the data directly from the FBI chip. Eventually few other features are also in discussion.

AH!
Also umgehst du den DAC völlig? Ahahaaa, genial!
AH!
So you're completely bypassing the DAC? Ahahaaa, that's genius! I would've never thought about something like that!

-
Thats Pretty Cool! Are there any changes on the software side e.g. drivers? Are resolution etc. set in Windows in the default menu?
-
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EN: Pass-through part is whatever you put on the input, you get on the output. V2 part is standard resolutions. No extra driver or modifications needed. As an idea discussed might be upscaling and/or change of aspect ratio (with black stripes where needed) with a small control panel, but the project is still in development, so we'll see.

Thats very cool!
You might try deepl.com for the translation next time, , usually these results are better
-
I think lommodore wants to say "deepl.com" , not deeol
Yes, i can also recommend "deepl.com" over the google translator.
But wow... That's amazing. It this Socket, which "bites" onto the chip, it reminds me a lot of amiga.
That's pretty neat. And it shows your skills, when you can grab the raw-data signals and transform then into HDMI.

EN: The credit goes to my friend Daniel from Romania. He is the mastermind behind this project (and many more) and in my opinion one of the most skilled guys I've ever met.
P.S. Not really sure which translation is better. You tell me
-
Tolle Idee!
-
yes !!! its Daniel Projekt He is a true 3dfx dedicated and passionate skilled person
is always a pleasure to discuss with him different 3dfx projects !
Nice too see its project posted here too.
Im also very curious to see the results of the v2 HDMI

Amazing project! Looking forward to see where this is heading!

An ingenious design, makes me wonder if you could connect this via the VESA connector only later 3dfx cards as well Banshee, Avenger & Napalm for example?
-
@GoldLeader, i first thought, that the device can hookup to the VESA connector, because of the flat-ribbon cable. I imagined, i would perfectly fit to these VESA pin headers.
But as far as i remember, it possible to connect some Laptop LCD Screens (you know, these typical 640x480 @ 65365 colors -16bit-).
So maybe there is a chance, that the VESA connector provide enough data-signals and they'd be useful.
As far from that: EMPEROR: i think the deepl.com translation works better. I'm astonished about the german word "Drahtzieher", that describes it perfectly.
The word "Drahtzieher" has some (but all posivitely) weird twist to it. Like a master of the dark arts, a guru. The mage who is in control of all puppet strings
-
Hmm I see, very interesting, makes me wonder has anyone ever tried using a VESA connector even with a Voodoo5 6000 for example or any 3dfx card for that part?
Since they were all added to all 2D /3D 3dfx based VGA cards, makes me wonder if they actually worked or even had a useful purpose, hmm.
This project does look similar to that what I had in mind yea.
