    It just works™

  • absolut Interessant, total bescheuert ;) ABER interessant :spitze:

  • Sehr geil!

    Hi feinripp,

thank you for sharing your experiment, perfectly successful, I congratulate you!:):respekt:

Your enthusiasm when starting Unreal Tournament Intro reminded me of my amazement when I managed to start a voodoo5 5500 agp, first on an Abit AN7, then on an Asrock 4coredual-sata2 motherboard: my reaction was the same as yours , super enthusiastic and amazed, but immensely happy. You did well to document this event ...;)

The credit for the failure to detect the v2, in my experience, this type of error is due to a loss of signal due to the Flat extension of the Riser pci-to pci.

Have you already tried to insert the voodoo2 ner riser pci-to-pci-e directly, directly into the pci-e slot, without any extension cable / flat cable?

I hope that the meaning of what I have written is clear. If I wrote in German, I would surely have obtained a worse result than this, and incomprehensible ...:bonk:8o

  • Sehr geil!

Thanks, and great insights! This could be true, in all cases I used either the PCI or the PCI-e riser cable, since the enclosures would not have space for the VGA output. I even thought about relocating the VGA output and probably would do so if I wanted a permanent solution.

But then again it worked with the Razer Case where I also used a riser cable...

  • Sehr genial :)

  • Also ich bin strikt dagegen! Voodoo's sollten artgerecht gehalten werden!

    Permanent aufgebaut:

    CUSL2-C, PIII 933MHz, 512MB, G400 Max 32MB AGP, 2x Monster II 8MB, SB Live!

Do you remember your: "It just works ™" ;)

Hardware is unpredictable, sometimes hardware that works perfectly on one MB doesn't work on another. Just take out the small card with the pci-e slot and try it out of the egpu case. So you also eliminate this doubt.

I have had experiences with unexplained pci, agp and pci-e flat extensions. The length of the extension for example:

Pci-e 20cm extension cable, replaced three times thinking about a defect in the extension cable, did not work on a given motherboard. While the same extension worked perfectly on other motherboards. It was enough for me to buy the same extension but 15 centimeters to use it on any motherboard. Same thing with the agp and pci extensions. All inexplicable, but it is so unfortunately ...8o

If the voodoo2 with direct riser in the pci-e slot works, then you will proceed, if you wish, to the modification of the egpu case.

  • Well this is interesting!

Win11 is not even official yet aka release wise and still a V2 12MB works haha :topmodel:
You are giving the right example right there :topmodel:

Just all the hassle you had to go through man, it's crazy, even tho Win11 this smells like an other scam by MS.

But hey there is always Linux right ;)

Just how you got a V2 working even in Win11 is just amazing, that is the main subject and this proves that 3dfx cards do have a nice future proof design hence the operating system support would go, even if it would cost some forms of tinkering xD

Maybe a G34 or C32 based Opteron could of made it much easier for you, as for G34 the Opteron 6300 series as well as Opteron 4300 for C32 series also have SSE 4.1 & .42 support which should be enough to run Win 11, as Win10 tends to run fine with these thanks to contacts of mine have proved me when 2CPU.com was still online.

Their mainboards do come with native Universal PCI 2.3 slots, so with that, a project like this would of saved you lots of trouble using all those unwanted peripherals.

The Supermicro H8SGL-B/F is what I would of used for this task, here the board I have for my OpteronMP 6140 D1,. it supports the Opteron 6386 SE C0 as max supported CPU and 256GB DDR3-1600 ECC Reg.

But hey man even if this was just for fun, it's amazing that you got good results despite all the trouble you had to go through.
Well done there though :) :respekt:
