Looking for Voodoo 5 6000 card for sale

  • Hi,

Can anybody in this community help me find a Voodoo 5 6000 card for sale? Would like to buy one that works, so preferably revision 3700A.

    Many thanks,

    Besten Dank.

Was ein Zeug.

    Besten Dank :)

  • Won't be easy or left alone affordable finding a Rev.A 3700 even being I would suggest you looking in to Anthony's solution, it's even improved over the 3dfx originals.

2.9V V-core per VSA-100 and 128MB as well as 256MB configurations, there are jumpers that allow the user to switch between 2.9V & 3.1v for the V-c0re and between 128MB & 256MB for the VRAM.

You can find more about these here:
New AGP 2x version of the Voodoo 5 6000 by Anthony! With the heart managed by the technology invented by 3dfx over 21 years ago.
These perform better and are rock solid in re-design and they cost much less, the new PCB & Parts also are a leap forward quality wise 8)

But if you really want an original 3dfx Voodoo5 6000 it will be 3500 a 4000 USD as most crazu sellers are asking retarded amounts... :bonk:
That does not make it worth it imo...

    Personally I still value a Voodoo5 6000 AGP 128MB Rev.A 3700 at 1500 a 1700 USD and no more
It's after all the most common Voodoo5 6000 revision made.

But if you are that desperate you can surely make a topic in this special forum that osckhar & I created,:
    http://www.voodoo3dfx.com/Foro…3c805b11aa6216362bd3a52c9

it used to be named V6K Team, but since Rampage became a thing osckhar renamed it to V6K & Rampage Team :topmodel:

  • Hi Gold Leader,

Thank you for the information regarding the remade voodoo 5 6000 cards. Very cool and actually very interesting too.

I agree with you that the original card should not cost that much, especially since its so old and fairly tricky to use, but as I stated in my post, it's more of a sentimental thing for me to own an original one.

I would be willing to pay good money for one, if somebody would offer me an authentic working and tested rev 3700A card. If you know anyone or if anybody else reads this reply and is willing to sell me one, please reach out :)

  • Hi everyone,

Anybody recognize this particular GPU card? I know it is an AccelGraphicsInc Glint card, which was the pro version of 3DFX equivalent. I guess i.e. Not sure how much this is worth if anything, but yet another card from the 3DFX era that I've kept that was very fast at the time ...

Hatte 32MB Textur Memory. Also 128MB total mit 32Chips je 4MB.

  • I totally agree man I been fighting yes literally fighting off the capitalists that ask way too much for these cards people that love to over abuse wors like Super Rare bla di bla lol

To me the actual value of a 3dfx Voodoo5 6000A GP 128MB rev.A 3700 + late Voodoo Volts with Internal Power Hookp & PCI-Rework should be no more than 1350 Euros that is what I paid for mine that I bought directly from hank Semenec via Gary Donovan, the card was new and never used:

You can view my gallery of it here:
    https://www.3dfx.ch/gallery/in…r/prevgas/album204/Napalm

My main gallery page is here:
    https://www.3dfx.ch/gallery/in…tors/collector_goldleader

And yes I had a shit ton of cards not only from 3dfx but many others as well and I too kind of want to rebuild all of this, it won't be easy but fuck it might as well get started now right.

If you need help I can surely look around asking in these forums can get tricky, in the past I succeeded to find 14 Voodoo5 6000 for varied 3dfx friends of mine, but I am not sure how that will unpack in 20221, the last card I found for a seeker was the one for Declan aka SWZSSR
Which is this card that came from Markus, a friend of my friend osckhar:)
After some cleaning he made it like new again :)

And when my friend SK1 was at my pace we had our little Voodoo5 6000 meeting, I miss doing this.

    Cards names & revs:

    3dfx Voodoo5 6000 AGP 128MB Rev.A2 2600 + PCI Rework & Internal Power Hookup by SK1
    3dfx Voodoo5 6000 AGP 128MB Rev.A 3700 + PCI Rework & Internal Power Hookup by Gold Leader aka Obi-Wan Kenobi

But yea if you need help with drivers as well feel free to come along, the Voodoo5 6000 owner's list was also made by me and designed by myself to give an average of how many cards were around out there, left alone how many worked and how many were defective, thanks to my autism & deepest on interest, these are things I still remember including every revision, PCB date all to the tiniest of details, what changes were made per card, you name it, the lot.

Sadly this project ended in 2011 for me, I had my 6K from 2005 to 2009, after that I focused more on the lesser known budget Voodoo5 cards the Voodoo5 5000's also made an owners list of those as well, you can find that here:
    V5 6000, V5 5000 und V5 5500 AGP x4, Owners Liste und Infos

At some point I can always make a new one, just to see if the amount of functioning cards decreased, since these things are used and some aren't the cards that aren't used well their capacitors will dry out so they would go defect over the ones being used, Jedi Grand Master Hank Semec taught me a lot of such things, don't use a card and let it collect dust, it surely will die off faster than the ones you are using, and of course ceramic or polymer capacitors can extend their lives sure but in the end nothing lasts for ever.

Ah well I just dunno where to start..again, or left alone if all those people still have their cards plus who to add, it would be a lot of work, yet maybe impossible to some degree, all due to those reasons I just never bothered in the end.
But mainly due to the depression I cam out of yes I sold all my cards, some sellers were good friends but many were out there to buy cards from me as cheap as possible and force money in my face my depression didn't make things merrier, it were dark times, selling that collection was the ultimate failure of my life I regret it every day and no it's not something I can leave behind, such things don't work for me, or never will.

So yea that was a very bad time, now I am trying to put the pieces back together again, well trying to, from the 87 3dfx cards I had I have two back so it's a start and hopefully more will be added over time but a Voodoo5 6000 that will never happen most sellers are packed with greed and ask too much for these, Anthony's solution is amazing not going to lie but as most know me I always prefer the originals over everything, heck left alone if I can get my old card back that would fix a lot of things, but I just don't see that happening.

Long live the frustrations right and sorry for the long ass text :topmodel:

But hey at least there is progress, as my favorite production 3dfx cards are thankfully with me and that is already a great start imo <3

Many thanks go to Backfire & SWZSSR for fixing that v5 :)

  • Hi Gold Leader,

Your post is truly awesome and I really appreciate your openness and honesty, as well as unfolding your journey.

Your photos are amazing and very impressive! The one I like the most is your voodoo table because I love the idea of being able to look at the items while not having to be near a computer or turn it on. Especially since the cards are so old, no point in really using it anymore, but looking at them like that is REALLY cool! Is your glass UV protective? Sun light most likely not good on these elements all day, or? By the way, also love the PanAm photo. I actually flew in one way back as a child. Still remember, what a time back then - people smoking cigarettes in their chairs and little ashtrays in every arm rest. Don't miss that part anymore :)

Regarding longevity of voodoo cards, I was not aware that this happens regarding drying up components. Is this a reality badly known issue? I mean if I'm lucky enough to buy a card, would this be an issue? Also, how much does it need to be used to keep in good condition? I was planning to use it once to see it running, but then take it back out and basically stare at it and share my happiness with friends. Any advice on how to manage that would be very helpful. While I'm a computer guy since 1986, I never deeply got into fixing electronics myself, so not really able to do that. I know the parts and how things work but because I never had a quiet hand, I could never really solder with confidence, even thou I did some of that too. I also remember vaguely some hack where one draws lines with a pencil onto the PCB to change hardware to better capable hardware that was just sold as "lite" but was technically the full card, just with a missing bridge :)

I still have my old voodoo 2, 3, and 5 5500 AGP version in their boxes in Germany. Honestly thou, didn't test them since 2004. Not sure if they died as you mentioned regarding drying up... Need to test I guess when I'm back later this year.

Due to the lack of working cards of the voodoo 5 6000, these days in 2021, what do you think is a fair price tag (not what it should be, but what is realistic giving rarity and time)?

  • hey many thanks man, as recaps go it's very much of need my friend Backfire can fill you in on all the details especially reasons, the parts are old like you mentioned yes, but if you love rebuilding classic PC"s like I do and put these relics back to use a recap is really recommended, take my V5 PCI Mac as example and look closely that's no ordinary card as it has been through 6 major treatments to make it a better quality card than most seen in these forums, it has Polymer capacitors these are the highest of grade capacitors for any kind of graphics card, they don't leak they are like ceramic ones they work or they don't this can help protect the PCB big time.

Recaps for 20 year motherboards is so important these days the acid that can come out of them can damage the PCB and the mainboard or graphics card will never be able to be repaired beyond that.
This is why recaps are so damn important, having these old cards collect dust will help them lose their actual working value a dead card carries no value in the end.

So these days I Rebuild classic high end gaming PC's from 1999 to 2004, sof ar have done two both of their motherboards have been fully recapped and are fully function as well, about 7 years went past to get these two done, but in the end it's all worth it trust me:

Sveta 2002 was the first one I worked on here it's topic:
Sveta 2002 is back as my 3dfx Retro Gaming Workstation!

Sevta 2002 is a rebuild of my old Voodoo5 gaming machine only with a slightly different mainboard CPU being a EPoX EP-8K7A+ with the AMD 761 Northbridge & VIA 686B South Bridge, this mainboard has been fully recapped by backfire it should be arriving later this week otherwise next week.
The CPU is an AMD AThlonXP 2200+ Thoroughbbred-A @ 1800Mhz.

Nighthawk was my second retro build, which is this one:
Nighthawk, my AMD 750 Slot A build!

Nighthawk is a high end gaming PC from 1999 with date correct parts from that era, featuring a MSI MS-6195 K7 Pro Slot A mainboard with an AMD 751 Irongate Northbridge & AMD AM756 Viper Southbridge, this is a very hard to get mainboard it has been fully recapped by SWZSSR.
it's CPU is an AMD K7 Athlon Thunderbird 700Mhz for Slot A.

As repairs and maintenance of cards go well you did come to the correct place We have people like osckhar & Backfire that can carry out many types of repairs & renovations to all sorts of hardware right down to BGA Reflows.
Here Backfire's 3dfx tech page there is a ton of info that can help you when troubleshooting 3dfx cards:
    http://www.pct-server.de/~step…fx-troubleshooting-guide/
to Contact Backfrie you can send him a DM here via VA or go to his contact page on that site.

osckhar can perform BGA reflows like replace 3dfx VSA-100 graphics chips to HiNT HB1-SE-66 PCI to PCI Bridge chips you name it he can make your Voodoo5 6000 like new again , but if it still works, I would certainly give it a recap, 20 year old capacitors lack a thing called reliability for use.

As the Boeing 747 models go that is my main drive these days I collect diecast scale 1:200 Boeing 747 Models and I run the Boeing 747 Community at facebook plus x-3dfx as well as some other great places. I kind of combine two favored interests 3dfx & Boeing 747's what could not be merrier :)

to me a fair price for a Rev.A 3700 the most common of six revisions should not be more than 1350 a 1500 Euros depending how complete the package is, Preferably I'd choose Anthony's cards all because they are improved and more affordable, that is the reality.

4000 USD is too much for an original 6K or equivalent, but I fear you may need to pay up for such an amount if seeking an original card.
It's capitalism and heavily overvalued, not something you'd see me agree with :|

The year 2021 or year 2034, the value will always be 1350 Eur to me for this common revision type, no matter what, rarity me arse, really.
There are much rarer things out there that would go for much less, it's just the overuse of fandom ruining the values.

Personally I don't believe or support such bad lame things, it's just mainly the rich and greedy ruining these dreams as where the people those that actually have proper knowledge on how to handle these cards are left out, this is the main problem these days, as it has been for the past 10 years if not more.

That my friend is the actual reality, the greedy people will never agree of course, they are to blame that all the prices have reached high levels of stupidity in the end.
Hope to see you around, but that should answer your question to that if it would have to come from me.

  • Sorry to break it to you, Starting prices for Rev3700A is 3500 euro & up. I don’t know why the value of 1350 euro is being thrown around… It’s not 2006 anymore, The world is very different now.

The 3700A is a complicated beast & requires a wealth of knowledge to know how to set it up and get it running properly. They are very cranky.

    Anyway, good-luck with your endeavours.
