But if you want a time correct system, it's a old Athlon or a P3 around 1 GHz.
Performance doesn't matter. You can even use modern CPUs with these cards when using an adaptor. They crush you trusty Athlon XP even in Standby mode.
But if the system should be the maximum possible without any hacks or so, the Athlon XP or the P4 is the way to go. That's the sweet spot. There are a better options for a Athlon XP based system. That's also true.
We should not discuss what is better, we should give some hints for building a system.
