Bunte V5 6k Nachbauten Sammelanfrage bis 12.12.2021 (ehmals: Roter V5 6000 Nachbau von Antony Sammelanfrage.)

  • On my EPOX 8K3A+ I removed the middle RAM retention tab as I also had the collision issue with the chip on the back of the board. No big deal though as the RAM is snug and the computer doesn't get thrown across the room too often so it's secure enough for me. I can always re-install the tab if I want someday, but I don't see any reason I would ever use the motherboard for anything other than my Strange God so that was my solution.

BTW - LOVING the card, thank you so much Anthony for making my dream come true! <3

  • probably i should consider usage of single oscillator and clock distribution logic as on original v56k to avoid appearance of such collisions.

  • Is there more jitter when using four crystal oscillators or does the VSA100 automatically compensate for the working clock frequency?

    Edit:

    In other words:

Is there some logic to synchronize the chips when using dedicated crystal clock generators, because every quartz crystal has its unique frequency it oscillates?

Or use the layout placement 3dfx used to place these things, it seems they didn't now have the ones you used, here ALT-F13's old card; I used Snow White as comparison:

Maybe an idea to place them on the top side of the PCB instead of the rear, making the card more flat as it comes to the rear side?
Other option stick to how 3dfx did their card y using their method instead, not sure if this is a doable method tho, just a thought :)

  • Red rot chains?

As far as I know this dot chains show up if the GPU's are working close to their clock limits.

vsa chips synchronize via other clocks. doesn't matter what to use as 14.318mhz source, resonator or oscillator or clock generator.

or this solution is doable too.

probably it's a kind of silicon error as both 220 and 320 chips have the same behaviour at similar clocks. i saw it only once when the 320 chip doesn't expose these at 200mhz. usually donut demo shows dots at 185+mhz.

  • Oh yea of course, glad you are able to witness the Voodoo5 6000 like I once did, for NTFS AmigaMerlin 3.1 R1 will allow you to use 1600x1200x16 + FSAA x8 btw this is the only driver that allows this for what I can recall and none of the 98SE drivers can do this either.

UT looked sick with this setting, frame rate was bad but yea for nice image quality shots of intense FSAA it's fun to mess around with.
Hereby I thank omega_supreme for finding this out, you can find his thread here at 3dfxzone.it:

  • Mal eine Frage.

Was kostet so ein Nachbau?

It is available???! Okay, I'm still in, what do I do next?

I'm also still in for an AGP Card
