I've got a snow white aka v6k and also the v5500 ( osckar modded version) agp. I'm looking to build a rigg with a mobo running the kt333 chipset. I've got a few older mobos. Been looking for a kt333 based mobo for a while without any luck . Anyone willing to sell one ? I could buy outright or trade a mobo instead. Few options.
Kt333 mobo

This mainboard might be nice to use:
ECS Elite Group K7VTA3/KT333 V3.1
https://www.ebay.ie/itm/175028908616
If it uses the KT333CD or CE revision you should be good to go -
I would stay away from it. There are too many revisions of it out there. I once had a "safe" Rev 3.1 of it. I used it with a Voodoo 3 3500TV - it worked, but at every power-on I got a no-VGA beep first, then it posted. The card still lives today, but maybe not the best home for 3dfx cards in general.

Ah good tyo know wasn't sure since I found a few cheap on ebay, then again maybe your board needed a recap hmm.
Yea dunno where else too look yet, thanks for the heads's up Tweakstone -
It sure wasn't the caps. It was new then and the issue was there from the start. Even with different BIOS Versions.
Otherwise it was quite solid for the budget price, but there are many better options today. If one is looking for a good safe 3dfx Socket A platform right now, I would advise to look after some KT266A-based Board, recap it first and be happy. These are quite readily available (I often see MSI Boards on ebay) and relatively cheap.

Hey, are you reffering to the K7T266 Pro2? I agree that board is readily available but I have not tested it yet with my "snowhite"...I have two of the boards in my storage and no clue what to do with them...

Still AmigaMerlin does say this ECS board seems to be safe

Voodoo5 6000 und Voodoo5 6000 by Anthony (Snowhite) compabiltyI did not say it is not safe.. My V3 3500 survived
But like I said, from my personal experience probably not the first choice for such an expensive card
Tormi2k : Well then we're all looking forward to your future tests
These boards will definitely not damage the card and would make a nice home for it. So tests would be nice

thanks for replies so far. I have one epox with 133 coming from bulgaria witn new caps and another one with 266( which will be sent for a recap) . However I was looking for 333 as everyone mentions the speed advantage. So far a I have the epox 8kta3l+( new caps) and 8kha+(needing recapped) . A pcchips m825 7.24 ( works with Anthony voodoo but doesn't with v5500) and I have a syntax SV266A which works with both.

I have tested many other mobo. Worth mentioning.
Tyan mpx s2466 OK with 5500 but no v6k
Abit k7tpro OK with v6k and v5500
M7VIQ a002 rev 1.2 nook with v5500 but no v6k
Assus av7333 OK with v5500 no v6k
Tyan s2507 OK with v5500 and v6k
For reference.

The KT333 does not perform that much better. The main "advantage" was the support for faster memory. But even that was no important feature, as it performs worse when the memory runs asyc to the FSB. Some Boards support FSB333 and have a fitting divider to run AGP/PCI at 66/33 and therefore support newer CPUs with FSB333 - but not all KT333-based Boards can do that (even though most of them have the support).
At the same settings (FSB266), the KT266A and the KT333 are very similar in performance.
-
that's an interesting development. I wrongly assumed performance would be superior purely on higher bus speed. Many thanks for that clarification.
-
No problem
-
Well, the performance is a little more at 333MHz frontsidebus compared to 266MHz but thats not because of the chipset. Both KT333 and 266A at 266MHz, there will be little to no difference as Tweakstone pointed out.
The K7VTA3 is indeed a nightmare because of ist many (!!) revisions. I have one here myself, which is a rev 6.0 and does look quite different to the rev. 3.1. Normally you would think that these are two different boards... Mine has only two RAM slots, a more narrow pcb and the pcb color is much brighter purple than the rev. 3.1. But: AGP 3.3V does work on mine as well (tested with an ATI Rage AGP).

Funny story. The tyan s2466 tiger mpx i have . Does the same with my voodoo 5500 agp. Makes vga missing post beep but boots up no problem, only with the v5500. OK with banshee, v3 1k and v3 3k. The s2507 doesn't have this issue.

a Voodoo5 6000 is not a Voodoo5 5500 lol some people need to stop comparing the two, if a 5500 works does not mean a 6000 will.
Left alone if a Chipset is safe, that does not mean every board maker's versions with that chipset is safe or even works.
Been there done that myself when I made the Voodoo5 6000 world owner's list, all the participants gave me their results we helped each other to make that info viable.
For for the love of YavinIV No Tyans with Voodoo5 6000's these boards stand well known to kill cards after several months of use.
Even at 2CPU forums we avoided TYAN they aren't that reliable as parts go. -
Tyan tiger mpx fully retired as far as voodoo5s go...v5500 and v6k. Did this as soon as you mentioned that weeks/ months ago. Last thing I want, is for either voodoo 5500( Oscar modded version ) or my snow white v6k to go bust ...
-
a Voodoo5 6000 is not a 5500 many times i have explained this and still people get ir wrong, if a 5500 works tat does not mean a 6000 will. a 5500 does not have the HiNT chip or PLX for that matter , a 6000 has far more complications it's an engineering Sample as well.
So please don't see a 6000 like a 5500 it's has too many differences to when it comes to safe function in mainboards and for the love of master Yoda avoid TYAN, they're unreliable, period. -
I am willing to sell an Asus A7V333 Rev 1.02 with KT333. The motherboard is working and in original packing. Are you interested? I will open soon an thread to sell it.
-
got the asus a7v333 rev 1.01 and it doesn't work with voodoo v6k. Works perfectly with voodoo 5500.
