3DFX-The great journey continues!

  • 3DFX-The great journey continues!

    English

Two days ago, Anthony, aka zx-c64, the first developer of New projects based on 3DFX technology since 2016 and many other projects, published the schematics of “almost” all of his creations.

This journey began “officially” in 2016, the year the developer entered the world of creating projects based on 3DFX technology.

Nine years after this beginning, the developer has made “PUBLIC” all the schematics of his projects that he deemed appropriate to share.

He had already anticipated this gesture at the beginning of his journey, but I believe that sharing hundreds, thousands of hours of work for free brings him great honor.

My hope, clinging to his phrase “almost all of my projects,” is that he will continue to develop new creations.

    In any case:

“THANK YOU SO MUCH, MY FRIEND, FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE SO FAR!!!”

„VIELEN DANK, MEIN FREUND, FÜR ALLES, WAS DU BISHER GETAN HAST!!!“

  • Hereby I am thanking Anthony for everything he has done for the entire 3dfx community for their 3dfx collectors and people within that are friends family as well.

Anthony made the impossible --> possible, thanks to his SUX 6000, Snow White & Strange God reverse Engineered Voodoo5 6000 cards he made it possible and affordable for those that wanted to experience the 3dfx Goddess, his cards were not 2000, 5000 or even 15.000 USD they were 1500 USD , the actual value of a Rev.A 3700 in that sense, the most common revision, Anthony made it affordable for all, even being that 1500 USD is a high number it was in some ways doable for those that could not afford a card that went for 5K or even more.

3dfx is for everyone and needs to be affordable for everyone, Anthony made that possible with his reverse engineered cards, it's also nice to see others giving a go at similar idea's as sdz has shown us, now with Anthony's designs in the open maybe others can give it a go, would be interesting to see what others come up with, something new to look forward to.

But I am also going to thank ciacara72 for passing on Anthony's new feed and also his great support within the 3dfx community as well, you too deserve some credit bud.

Where this all goes from now, well I guess we'll need to spread word and hope these projects land in the right hands, I made sure to download them and add them in my 3dfx archive, such works should never go lost, but always be well protected.

Maybe I could make a Anthony 3dfx owners list on who has what and where the part is located, idea?

  • I believe that several projects based on 3dfx technology, which have been on hold for some time because ‘they took the wrong approach to their implementation’, as a friend said some time ago ;), will get an immediate boost because they will take inspiration from these projects that have been made public.

I expect some surprises in the coming months, once the new PCBs have been made.

"It's easy to eat when the food has been cooked!"8o

Take note and remember my words.

While sdzis a great developer, who participated in debugging the HDMI port of the v3 Witch (thanks to you too, my friend :)), he has taken a parallel but different path, applying his creations to components that had never been considered before, such as MXM 3dfx graphics cards applied as graphics expansion on notebooks.

What's more, his projects are in the public domain, something that sdz has always adopted since he started developing his projects.

As far as I am concerned, I thank you Gold Leaderfor your kind words about me. I am not at their level, but in my own small way I have tried to support @Anthony's creations since the early days, because I really saw great potential in him.

As for the list of owners of Anthony's creations, I believe, if I remember correctly, that someone on VoodooAlert started this list.

In any case, it is not a decision I can make.

  • But what happens now?

I dream of Rampage with FPGA on PCIe 5.0 :)

Hi Kaitou, I believe that to achieve this miracle, we need a Rampage to sacrifice for reverse engineering; a rasteriser taken from the sacrificed Rampage; and a programmer who can recover the drivers, without any available documentation, and make them at least 100% functional.

Even I, who destroyed 3dfx cards more than 25 years ago, shudder at the thought...

In my opinion, it's impossible, unfortunately...
