Voodoo2's are dying, then again not sure how serious this video is.

    Here's the video I just found, my Gainwards are well cared for and properly maintained by backfire so I for all I know I stand clear of this issue for now.

    Backfire Does that video make any sense? I thought it was interesting to share regarding the Voodoo2 are dying debacle..
    The thing I don't get is that he uses old capacitors replace the broken ones, if doing recaps he may as well use brand new Tantalum capacitors and just get it done all the way like you did with my Gainwards.

    This is a good video, and of course it makes sense.
    He well explained the things.

    Even though it is extremely rare, ceramic capacitors can become problematic over the years.
    I fear that we will be confronted with this much more frequently in the future, and the time required to repair the cards will continue to increase.

    Yea I wasn't sure hence why I made the topic, but anyways glad I have made it likewise.

    So replacing all Ceramic capacitors with Polymer or Tantalum capacitors would be the key then.Here an other video explaining what is causing a Voodoo2 to crash in games, this guy has a ton of such related video content:

    Ceramic caps on the Voodoos are MLCC caps and should only be replaced by the same type.
    MLCC are bipolar.

    Electrolytic caps can be replaced by tantalum caps. Because they have more lifetime.
    But they are pretty much more expensive than polymers.

    oh okay, well good to know, this guy has a ton of 3Dfx related videos but also how to repair Slot 1 Pentium 3 CPU's and other vital parts on them, lots of great stuff on there, I also shared his content with x-3dfx.

    It surprises me he is not even a member here at VA, Anyways I thanked him for his input in his videos, it was a random find really as well.
