    P4 has poor performance in games though due to the very weak FPU performance something the AthlonXPs have a major advantage over plus the games of that era relied on a very high FPU performance spec.

    P4 was maybe only good at 3D mark, Lame MP3 encoding or other intel/NVIDIA sponsored software, yet the actual games they were 90% of the time far behind.
    Heck I remember using my Hercules 9700 Pro after the Leadtek Ti 4600 and the 9700 pro gave me 5000 extra 3D mark points and this was with an Athlon64 3200+ Clawhammer (1MB L2) and a MSI nForce 3 mainboard, so yea CPU bound ...not entirely a thing with that config.
    SO I am not so sure how you can refer that to a much slower card like the Ti 4600 in general.

    D2X Rebirth 0.58.1 + D2X Retro 1.4X3 is my favored game and the V5 PCI Mac runs it fine at around 90 fps, it's not world shattering but it's OK.

    Only when I had my AthlonXP 2700+ and the EP-8K3A+ and Hank's 3dfx Voodoo5 6000 AGP 128MB Rev.A 3700 I got a solid 200 fps at 160x1200x32 so yea using the correct reliable hardware and correct OS + Driver setup you will get waaay more out of a 6K than what these you tubers did.

    This was with Win2K Pro + SP4 & RU 01 for SP4
    SFFT Alpha 41 modified by ps47 & myself

    Descent 3 & UT GOTYE 1999 could be run in 32 Bit Glide mode if using AmigaMerlin 3.1 R1, this driver also alows you to use FSAA x8 a 1600x1200 thanks go to omega Supreme for that find, the same goes for 5000 PCI & 55000 AGP/PCI/PCI mac cards for FSAA x4 and all V4 cards for FSAA x2.
    5000 AGP won't work in SLI mode under NTFS this is still beyond me, but now I think it is Bios related.

    Although I am sure there are plenty other game titles that could of been added, left alone most of us 3dfx die-hards would of made a far better detailed review of any 3dfx card if it comes to that anyway.

    What system specs did you use with that test run?


    Did you run in default 32 bit or change it to 16Bit?
    LTT did default te4st at 32 Bit as did I.

    If it's a Core 2 Quad or something like that, then it's just the CPU getting the score and not the card, the card just displays what is seen on screen but it won't offer much good, the V5 forms a bottleneck beyond the AthlonXP 3000+ area, around there it won't matter if having a faster CPU because the CPU is doing all the work.

    If a YT'er would do a proper review of a Voodoo5 6000 why not test the card in games that were made for it, my list would surely be a lot different than that of others but at least i would of been era correct for the least of it:

    I am sure you guys have other titles in mind, just less popular ones would be nice.
    LTT doesn't lack money or time to do something decent so far the review from Gamers neus & LTT disappointed me due to low coverage and lo knowledge all due to how to treat the cards and by using the incorrect setups as hardware & OS go, mainly OS as they both used an EPoX mainboard with the KT333, chipset only CPU & OS choice was not so merry left alone the drivers they used rofl

    My Parhelia AGP 256MB DDR supported all 21 tests and gave me 6874 points of course this one has no 3D acceleration support issues regarding to 3D Mark 2001 SE Pro B330.

    Even tho a Dual Opteron 250 CG would be a more proper home for this card type, the AthlonXP 2200+ was the clear bottleneck.

    So out of pure curiosity I too ran Mad Onion's 3D Mark 2001 SE Pro B330 with my V5 PCI Mac in my AthlonXP 2200+ only using the EPoX EP-8K7A+ which has the AMD 761 North Bridge and the VIA 686B South Bridge, personally I find this chipset much snappier than the VIA Apollo KT333 which the EPoX EP-8K3A+ has.

    My score at 1024x768x32 as default run gave me in a first run 2154 Points as seen here:


    That 3dfx Voodoo5 6000 AGP 128MB Rev.A 3700 that Ross C.T. lend out to LTT only did 2614 or something in that range, barely 500 points more than my V5 PCI Mac... I really think that card is damaged as the previous owner used it in a TYAN Thunder K7 Pro which you can see here:

    TYAN Thunder K7 Pro will damage the card over time, the damage is permanent.

    That V6K is damaged it should of scored around 80 a 85% more points so roughly 1246 Points more for a score of 3400 points, this is what a healthy 6K would do with an AthlonXP 2200+. maybe a bit less but at least 3000 a 3100 points.
    I Seen 6K results score around 3700 points if using an AthlonXP 3000+ so yea, 2614 isn't much ya know, if my V5 PCI mac comes so close to it.
    it doesn't add up.

    The only major difference was the mainboard used, I used the EPoX EP-8K7A+ which has the AMD 761 NB and the VIA VT686B SB as where that 6K setup from Linus Sebastian uses the VIA Apollo KT333 NB and the VIA VT8233A SB, CPU wise both used an AthlonXP 2200+ these run 1.8Ghz by default with a 266Mhz FSB, a 5500 AGP in my setup would do around 2200 a 2300 points more or less, it's hit or miss really.

    If that card was not damaged the score would of been a lot higher, this test run I made with my V5 PCI Mac was done to find this out.

    Agreed for starters its NOT 4 four GPU's it's four rasterizer chips , not one 3dfx graphics chip had an on die geometry Processor for T&L effects something S3's Savage 2000 did have as well as ATi's R6 Radeon & NVIDIA's NV10 for GeForce 256.

    Seeing them test 3D Mark 2001 SE B330 was disappointing this test is worthless and doesn't do the card any types of justice.
    Test the games it's made for running or Falcon 4.0 + Free Falcon 3.2, Flanker 2.0 + 3dfx V5 patch 2.51, Star Wars Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, Quake II + expansions, Descent3 + mercenary, Freespace 2 the list goes on, there ar e a ton of games he could of tested to put this card to it's actual potential.

    Also this is the card I found for that one guy name d SWZSSR / Retro Dee, and the other 3 a 4 names they used... within 3 days via osckhar, it's the old card from Markus.
    The little heatsinks on the rear are burnt copper heatsinks by EnzoTech, anyone can apply those, nothign specal thatw as needing pointing out.
    it's also just a Rev.A 3700 nothing rare about this card, rarest models are these which my friend omega_supreme owns

    So when I see Rev.A 3700 reviewers talk about their cards being ultra rare, I always need to giggle and point them out that the Rev.A 3700 is the most common of all Voodoo 5 6000's out there, just saying.
    and along side these there are much more interesting cards that can cost less as well Anthony's cards I would strongly recommend for those that want to try out a Voodoo5 6000 his Snow White cards as well as his S.U.X. 6000 series and the Strange God Series are the best choices imo to go for.

    And if you have a V5 PCI or AGP or even a V5 PCI mac like I do never feel left out even for all other 3dfx based cards.
    At least us 3dfx owners don't have to rely on crappy emulators, which i always the real deal in the end, no matter what kind of Voodoo you use.

    I broke my old record in C&C Red Alert 2 + Yuri's Revenge & Purple Alert 4.10.28 mod with 10.5K points after a 20+ hour run with the AthlonXP 2200+ and it's Parhelia AGP 256MB DDR :)

    the system ran dead stable for them 20 hours, Backfire the recap with them Japan made Panasonic capacitors is really paying off well :)

    yea Slot A Is slow lie Pentium3 is, but to answer their questions yes it will work.
    I'd avoid Barton and stick with Thoroughbred-B instead , smaller dies they have a smaller chance of cracking, this was a major issue when it cae to Barton die's they are more vulnerable.

    Also it's the EP-8K3A/8K3A+ you'd actually want for best stability, the EP-8K5A series I found very unstable even after recaps [...]

    For the Bartons and T-Breads you can use one of these metal "protectors". I forgot the name... :D

    By replacing the capacitors you may fix some problems but changing one thing may change some other things unwanted.

    They had a special name, like a spacer or something forgot what it was tho, as recaps go yea that can do a lot of good, Backfire is my go to guy for those things :)

    Could of been the 3 8K5A2+ boards I had needed recaps but I can't know from the other 5 reports I got from them, back when I had the 6K from hank himself I stuck with the board he advised me which was the EPoX EP-8K3A+, an other good board was the 8K7A+ with the AMD 761 NB the one I am using now actually, the one that uses the VIA Apollo KT266A is also a decent choice, EP-8KHA+ I think it was, max CPU that supported was the AthlonXP 2600+ Thoroughbred B with 266mhz FSB, you could also use AthlonMP 2800+ which also has the 266Mhz FSB.

    But agreed recaps saves lives.

    i can confirm that the GA-7IXE4 runs fine with the V5 6k replica. It is not Slot A but the 751 Chipset ;)

    Oh interesting so this is a Socket A board then, hmm maybe there is a Bios for AthlonXP 2100+ Palomino support, not sure if the AMD 751 chipset was given support for to see as it comes to Socket A though.
    Might be worth looking in to, as that a 2100+ is pretty decent for a Voodoo5 6000 based card, not the best choice, but still pretty decent.

    i'd stay with via kt333 as it's the most compatibe and the whole socket 462 platform is much more close to old good i440 bx than intel hub based chipsets. the only drawbacks are naked cpu chip and bad cpu cooler mount.

    Not all KT333 boards like the 6K only a few like from EPoX, MSI and Soyo also has one the KT333 Dragon Ultra or what they named it.
    Just make sure the KT333 NB revision is D or E and then you're mostly in good hands.

    The EP-8K5A2/A3+ series were for my rev.A 3700 very unstable as where the EP-8K3A+ was rock solid the same for the MSI KT3 Ultra, yet others also witnessed instabilities with the MSI board, so it was not really recommended in that sense.

    The ASUS A7V333-R is also a solid KT333 board but no post with all Voodoo5 6000 revisions.

    Not sure how it is with your reverse engineered cards Anthony, but I would compare them to that of the Rev.A 3700 or rev.A 3900 as mainboard compatibility goes, just avoid using Tyan 760 MPX boards, these will permanently damage the Voodoo5 6000 over a long period of time, people that ignore this well it's totally on them then, I can't educate everyone and I know there are a few that ignore our advice's on such things.

    But if using PCI variants you'll have more success when testing in boards that may not do well with AGP variants, that would be just my conclusion on the matter though.

    As for Cheap EPoX boards? none of the KT333 boards from EPoX are cheap, you can blame the capitalists for that crap lol, this is more of a jest to me than something realistic, some pipe dream in that kind of sense.

    When I made the Voodoo5 6000 owners list owners of Voodoo5 6000's told me this experience themselves so I took note of it, that being a total of 85 people back then, not sure how many there are now.

    The Micro-Star International MS6195 K7 Pro should work, I have this board in use it is rock solid with Bios V1.8, here my baord which has caps from SANYO & OSCOMP:

    Will it work sure, but will it give you optimal performance, no it won't an AMD AThlonXP 2000+ or greater if you want a required speed spec, but I'd definitely stick with an AthlonXP 2200+ or greater if going the Voodoo5 6000 route.

    This board supports all AMD K7 revisions, Orion, Pluto, Argon & Thunderbird, 500Mhz - 1000Mhz.

    An other good alternative is this Micro ATX version of it which I still have laying here backhand:

    Micro-Star International MS6191 the K7 Mini I nick name it, not sure if it has an actual name tho.

    They both have AGP 3.3v support and AGP x1/x2 support.

    The Dual Gallatin 3Ghz Xeons dubbed the score basically, I ran the tests at default run at 1024x768x32, at this reso the 6800 & 6800 GT barely differed, both NV40 test runs ran with ForceWare 84.21 WHQL.

    oh yea damn, well you're a first to have a DVI on a Quad SLI VSA-100 setup, does the same happen with the HDMI as well?
    As AGP goes imo PCI is the best interface as it offers 33Mhz & 66Mhz PCI bus modes and it's ideal to use alongside a main graphics card.

    Matrox Parhelia AGP universal 256MB DDR + 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 PCI Macintosh is the setup I am using now, this is the advantage of having a PCI card type, it gives you more headroom for use.

    Looks like a fan from Scythe btw, nice short card too, looks like an AAlchemy 4116, but shorter, or a half AAlchemy 8164 per example, very nice ya figured it out, seeing it has DVI and HDMI as well, I know that Dual chip VSA-100 works with the DVI like the V5 PCI Mac cards can, were you able to get 4 VSA-100's working with the DVI as well?

    Or was that a limitation to DVI it's self that Quad SLI config would not work?

    So here it finally is again, I managed to buy this one via ebay in Austria for 35 euros + 15 Eur shipping totaling a nice 50 Euros it's like new mint condition;

    This card was a steal of a deal for a billion words especially when it comes to ebay finds like this one, just one of them rare miraculous finds.

    The previous owner cared a lot for it, ideal because this is the card my dad used to have and I have a lot of good memories of it also why I hunted one done for the past 3 years, but gladly was able to find this gem back.

    So I was able to renovate this card back to it's new state and I will test it later this week in my AMD OpteronMP 6140 D1 system with Windows 7 and the AMD Crimson Beta 16.2.1 drivers, same driver set I used for the R900 Antilles Driver test board.

    So yea fun times upcoming for sure and an other lost card readded to my Radeon Collection.

    Here something nice to add to this build log, yesterday I recently upgraded the system with a new graphics card because the Nitro+ RX Vega 64 gave random no signal input errors with the monitor, I refitted the V64 a few times it sometimes worked but then again it happened again, but hey it's been a 6 year ride so I went out and bought this new card.

    it wasn't cheap because nothing is, due to the 21% VAT and the high inflation where I live I paid 733 Eur incl shipping the card stand alone was 705 Eur, then again seeing it how it easily beats that new RTX 4070 easily, I think I still made a good deal with this one, the RX 6900 XT Nitro & Toxic Air cooled cards were over 940 euros as well and that wasn't something I felt like doing, because those are only 8 to 10% faster,. not worth to pay up even more for a damn graphics card, it's not USA where I live it's the Netherlands one of the most expensive countries when it comes to graphics cards, ah well I really didn't care since i needed a new one anyway, thus I wanted something that will last me 6 years also why I choose Sapphire's Nitro livery 8)

    With all of that put aside, here it is then , my long awaited graphics card upgrade that gladly replaced Sapphire Nitro+ Vega 64!

    So here the box to start off with:

    it seems a normal Nitro+ RX 6800 XT box was used and Special Edition decals were applied to it, I found out after reading the rear on the box that the card has 3x Display Port and 1x USB< while this being the Special Edition it actually has 2x Display Port, 1x USB Type C & 1x HDMI instead, seems that Sapphire ran out of original SE boxes and used the normal ones instead and applied decals showing it's the SE model rofl, fora collector like me this is an interesting twist.

    Seeing the work the Sapphire box artists did for the box art also was an eye opener, I remember in the old days box arts were always fancy looking, this one surely was a surprise to see as well, it's not too over done yet it's stylish and dynamic.

    This card is also a nice add to my Sapphire Nitro collection likewise.

    So far I am very satisfied with this upgrade, it's rock solid it's silent and dead stable with AMD drivers 22.4.1 WHQL, it's not he latest and greatest RDNA technology, but for the games I run this was the perfect move to make, the USB Type C connector will also play a large role when I get a Valve Index VR headset, it's a 10 GBPS connector which is ideal for such things.

    The 16GB 256Bit GDDR6 VRAM interface is also fantastic, having a large frame buffer and more than the 12GB NV offered is also an importance for me, in 6 years time 12GB may give issues, but 16GB will not, I upgrade every 6 years so the performance leap from the previous to the new replacement is always massive, which just makes it more worth while, these Nitro+ liveries have the better quality components compared to the reference cards as well, so that too plays a large important role, With Smart Access Memory aka SAM enabled which none of the reviewers even use in their tests this card can outpace a RTX 3090 easily as well, AMD has done a solid job as drivers go, I have friends that have this card and they too are very satisfied with theirs just as I am with mine, without SAM it's 15% faster than the RTX 3080 12GB, more than enough for my doings, in 6 a 7 years time I'll see what the market has to offer by then.


    Then again not all games like SAM like VR Chat for example, which is a game I play mostly so for that reason I have that feature mostly disabled.
    it would be nice if you could enable and disable SAM via windows instead of always going in to the Bios.

    The original fan was very noisy, so I did an upgrade: Zalman ZM-80C heatpipe VGA cooler. Introduced in 2003, and compatible with the Parhelia. Works very well as long as there is some case ventilation. Suits the silent system much better!

    Also I have made an entire archive of all Matrox Parhelia driver kits, it took me some time to find out which driver combination worked best, until one of my x-3dfx staff members gave me the idea to use the May 2007 WDM driver in combination with the September 2003 control panel and this solved a lot of issues on my end.

    Re-build my 20 year old PC. Originally, I wanted to put a Voodoo5 in there (just like 20 years ago), but they are ridiculously expensive nowadays. I then remembered how I had admired the Parhelia when it was originally launched in 2002 (also a very special card I think...), and I took the chance to grab a Parhelia 128MB AGP on ebay for probably 20% the price of a Voodoo5.     Would be very nice to see! I always loved Matrox, they are the masters of image quality & image fidelity, Parhelia does that very well.

    Here's mine with a Matrox Parhelia AGP 256MB 256Bit DDR Rev.A 2503 with Universal AGP 2.0 x4/x8 slot, 1 of 1500 made all the other cards used the AGP 3.0 x8 connector.
