Can anyone help me identify 3dfx chip?

Hello all,

Recently I purchased a chip and I couldn't find any information about it. My wildest guess is, it's a Voodoo 3 Engineering Sample, but the date really confuses me, as it somewhere in the middle of V3 lifespan. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Since it's missing any kind of product number (e.g. 355-0025-001) it very likely is an engineering sample. Check the BGA layout on the bottom, Avenger and VSA100 are very different.

It is not VSA100 for sure. And it's too early to be a VSA101 I think. But also kinda late date for V3 too. I am really confused with this one.

Way too early for VSA101. Like I said, the BGA layout should give us a hint So please make a picture of it.

Thanks. Yes, that's an Avenger. The date 9915 is still right on the edge when the new logo came into play.

Engineering samples in the middle of a lifecycle aren't that uncommon. The chips get optimized and arrive in new steppings, which need to be tested. I assume this is such part. Closest part number would be 355-0017-11.

This also came with the same package - which I believe to be the V3 DVI chip.
