Epox EP-8K3A+ and mosfets

  • This mobo was so recommended as best for V5 (6k).

I bought the one. Recapped it. Worked for a while and something cracked on one mosfet. Aftrer replacing the one, similar situation happened again.

Recently purchased next one Epox. Identical situation with mosfet.

Is really good these mobos or had strong unluck? Hard to imagine to put 6K on they.

[If someone would like to inspect them then can send for inspection]

  • Mainboards are like Cars, you need to change parts in the best car to keep it running.
As far as i know, no V5 6000 died on a EP-8K3A+ yet. and it was a testet Mainboard by 3dfx (Hank)

But all Mainboards are getting old. What was good 20 years ago, might not be good 20 years later.

If you have a Original V5 6000 i would check out all Mainboards that are known to work, until you find something you feel safe with.
If you have an Replica you have so much more choice ;)

    There is no best Mainboard.

  • Did the same Mosfet die after repair? Can you replace it again and check if the other two Phases, i.e. Mosfets are getting warm?

I assume that only one Phase is working and is getting a too high load. Which Caps did you use for the recap?
